The UVic Engineering Competition is scheduled for November 15th, 2014. UVEC is UVic’s regional qualifier for the Western Engineering Competition (WEC), a university competition held every year between twelve universities with engineering programs in western Canada.

WEC will be held in Vancouver at the end of January, and this years’ UVEC winners will get to attend. We will cover winners’ travel fees and most of the delegate fees (winners will be expected to pay a small portion amounting to less than $200). For those on co-op in January, the ESS will reimburse partial or total travel expenses depending on cost.

UVEC itself will run on November 15th, 2014, starting at 9:30 am.

Without further ado, here are the different categories students can compete in:

Teams of up to four are given their challenge the morning of the junior design competition. The challenge usually involves designing, building, and testing a simple machine or structure to complete a given task. Teams have to consider limited resources and a scoring matrix to best maximize their score. After only four hours, the teams must present and test their prototype before the judges.

Please note that participation in Junior Design is limited to students who will have not yet completed second year by the end of March – that is, current first years and 2A students.
