Engineers Without Borders is a growing charitable organization dedicated to international development. Consisting mostly of volunteers from the Canadian engineering profession – students, professionals and companies, EWB has sent over sixty young engineers and non-engineering students to work on thirty projects in twenty countries over the past three years. Closer to home, almost four thousand members across the country strive to make Canada the most development-friendly and sustainable country in the world.
University of Victoria has our own chapter of EWB. Check out the webpage at http://uvic.ewb.ca for more info.
Science Venture, a member organization of Actua, is a student run, non-profit organization that offers hands-on, minds-on science, engineering and technology learning opportunities for kids entering grades 1 through 8.
Science Venture is a dynamic, educational organization that stimulates an appreciation for science, engineering and technology using a hands-on, minds-on approach that educators confirm to be the most effective teaching method. They strive to introduce children of all abilities to diverse sciences. Their primary goals are to provide children with tools and role models, to dispel common stereotypes, and to encourage a positive science experience.
