The Spring 2019 Iron Ring Ceremony will be held on Saturday, March 16th at 2pm.

Tickets for this ceremony are SOLD OUT

.

How do I register for the Iron Ring ceremony

–      First, pay through the ESS webstore (you don’t need an ESS website account)

–      Second, fill out the registration form.  You will be prompted to fill out the registration form following the payment process.

Does the Iron Ring ceremony ever sell out?

Yes it does.  Year to year we see fluctuations in ceremony participation.  In some circumstances, due the maximum capacity of the ceremony venue, we will halt registration.   The best way to avoid the disappointment of having to defer your participation in the Iron Ring ceremony is to register early on in the registration period (early in March or November, for spring and fall ceremonies respectively).

Am I eligible for the upcoming Iron Ring ceremony?

You can register for the upcoming ceremony if:

–       You will complete all your Engineering course and co-op requirements at the end of the same term as the upcoming ceremony; or

–       You have previously graduated from UVic with a BEng or BSEng

What if I have another course or another co-op to complete?

If you must complete another co-op or another course in a term which begins after the upcoming ceremony, you are not eligible for the upcoming ceremony

Does registering for the Iron Ring Ceremony also apply me for graduation?

No. Iron Ring and graduation are completely different things. Registration for one does not count as registration in the other.

Graduation info can be found here:  http://www.registrar.uvic.ca/undergrad/convocation/convocation.html

Where is the Iron Ring ceremony?

The Iron Ring ceremony will take place on campus at the University of Victoria, in Bob Wright Building room B150. You can find a map of UVic (including parking lots) here.

How long does the Iron Ring ceremony take?

The Iron Ring ceremony takes between 60 – 80 minutes.  Please plan to arrive at least 30-40 minutes prior to the ceremony to check-in, re-size your ring, and find seating.

When is the deadline for registration?

Iron Ring registration will remain open until we do not have enough seating for additional attendees.  Sometimes this is early in the registration month, sometimes it is later.  The best way to avoid the disappointment of not being able to attend the upcoming ceremony is to register as early as possible.

I would like someone close to me to be there when I receive my iron ring. Can they attend the ceremony?

Since March 2012, UVic Iron Ring ceremonies have been open.  However, over the years total ceremony participation has reached a point where we can offer only limited guest seating.

Each ring recipient may choose to bring one (1) guest at a cost of $15.  They must pay for and register this guest at the time they purchase their own ticket and register.

Additional guest tickets may be made available on a first-come first-served basis starting during the last week of the registration month (February for a March ceremony, or October for a November ceremony).

If there is room, how will I pay for any guests in addition to my first guest?

Additional guests may be allowed based on space constraints.  In this event, additional guest registration would become available near the end of the registration month.

Additional guest tickets will be made available online in a similar manner as the ceremony tickets.

I won’t be in Victoria for the ceremony. Can I have a friend pick up my ring for me or can you mail me one?

No.  In order to receive a ring, you must attend an Iron Ring ceremony in person.

Which finger do I wear my ring on and what is my ring size?

Your Iron Ring should be worn on the pinky-finger of your working hand (ie. right hand if you’re right handed).  You can be sized for a ring at any jewelry shop.  Be sure you request sizing based on the North American system.  This system uses sizes typically in the range of 2 – 10.  Note that our rings are only available in whole- and half-sizes (ie. 6, 3.5, etc).  Quarter sized rings are not available.

I registered online and entered the wrong ring size.  Should I email you to change it?

We bring a large number of rings from sizes 1 all the way to 15 to every ceremony.   For this reason, there is no need to email us to change the ring size noted on your registration.  We will simply exchange your ring prior to the ceremony.

How much does it all cost?

This depends on if you’re going to bring a guest or not

Registration for the Iron Ring Ceremony (including your ring) costs $40, and guests are an additional $15 per guest.

I lost my ring. Can you give me another one?

Yes.  You may contact Camp 23 for your replacement ring by emailing Camp23 (at) ironring.ca

I want to have my ring presented to me by another engineer.  How do I do that?

You can have your ring presented to you by anyone who already has an iron ring (regardless of their professional registration status or lack thereof).  We call this person a ‘special presenter’.   To request a special presenter, please fill out the special presenter registration section of the registration form

Please note that special presenters do not have to pay to attend the ceremony, nor do they count towards the ‘guest limit’ and they should not be registered as guests.

What do I wear?

The Iron Ring Ceremony is a business casual affair. Please no jeans and sneakers, and no tuxedos. A nice shirt and a skirt/black slacks would be excellent choices.

I paid and registered but never received a ticket in the mail?

There are no physical tickets for this event, only registration lists.
